To help everyone—those with sight and those without—
The majority of people with curable blindness have cataracts.
Cataracts occurs when the part of the eye called the lens becomes cloudy, which makes a person’s vision so blurry over time that they become blind.
Treating this is simple.
A surgeon removes the cloudy lens and replaces it with an artificial one. This new lens is nearly identical to the natural lens of the eye. The surgery itself requires only a small incision and is usually complete within 15 minutes.
The cost of a cataract surgery varies widely per country, but on average the procedure costs $50.
The range is due to the fact that people with cataracts often live in remote villages, and part of the cost of the surgery involves surgeons traveling to those villages or transporting the patients to the hospital.

Our goal is to help everyone with curable blindness regain their eyesight so they, too, can see the beauty in this world.
Beauty has been known as an aesthetic quality—a look or an appearance achieved by wearing or applying certain fashionable things. At Brownie, however, we believe beauty runs much deeper than that.
A beautiful act is a generous one, one rooted in love. And a beautiful person is someone who has been touched by that love—both in the giving and in the receiving.
Beauty, to us, is the result of doing good in the world. It's the feeling that arises from giving and receiving, from making a difference in someone else's life.
Our goal is to help us all see the people who are doing good in this world. The people who are, one by one, making this world a more beautiful place.
